Building Surveyor with 1 to 3 years experience in private practice

The ideal candidate for this role will have a degree or BTEC qualification in a subject relevant to their job responsibilities, most suitable will be Building Surveying. Following graduation you will ideally have gained at least 3 years professional experience and are likely to be aiming to gain chartered status. 

The following will give you a guide to what the role may entail:

Client and Design Team Liaison

  • Promote the interests of the company to potential clients and introducers.
  • Develop positive trust based relationships with clients and members of the design team.
  • Attend meetings with the design team and record discussions and actions.
  • Review project correspondence issued by design team.
  • Review drawn information issued by the design team.
  • Correspond with design team.

Management

  • Delegate design and specification tasks to Graduate Surveyors and Trainee Surveyors.
  • Delegate drawing tasks to CAD Technicians, Trainee CAD Technicians and Trainee Surveyors.

Surveys and Reports

  • Undertake measured surveys
  • Carry out surveys of existing buildings and inspections of building defects.
  • Prepare written reports and Scott Schedules.
  • Review reports prepared by others.

Professional/Legal Duties

  • Undertake professional duties as CDM Co-Ordinator in accordance with CDM Regulations
  • Undertake Party Wall duties assisting the named Building Owners Surveyor/Adjoining Owners Surveyor/Agreed Surveyor.

Design and Drawings

  • Develop scheme designs through to completion.
  • Prepare scheme design drawings.
  • Prepare detail design drawings including Planning and Building Regulations.
  • Check designs prepared by others (e.g. M & E) for dimensional accuracy
  • Prepare specifications and schedule of works
  • Check specification prepared by others against design.
  • Take responsibility for programming of design and drawing tasks.

Site Involvement

  • Undertake full Contract Administration duties.
  • Inspect and report on construction progress and quality.
  • Be observant of site Health and Safety issues.

Quality Assurance

  • Fulfil the role of Building Surveyor as described in the Quality Management System as Project Surveyor ensuring all procedures are followed.

Health and Safety

  • Prepare design risk assessments to meet the requirements of the CDM Regulations.
  • Encourage safe working methods for self and colleagues within and outside the office.

Financial

  • Aim to work as efficiently as possible at all times to ensure profitability of each commission.
  • Prepare draft fee accounts for approval by Senior Building Surveyor / Associate Director as appropriate.
