Our client, a specialist water company, is seeking an experienced Senior Water Treatment / Hygiene Engineer to oversee all aspects of water hygiene across diverse sites including office buildings, shopping centres, and warehouses. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with UK water hygiene regulations, mitigating risks associated with Legionella and other waterborne pathogens, and supporting the company’s clients with expert guidance and service delivery.
Role Overview
As the Senior Engineer, you will:
- Act as the primary point of contact for all water hygiene matters.
- Develop and implement robust water management systems.
- Conduct risk assessments and monitor water quality.
- Coordinate maintenance and remedial actions to ensure compliance and safety.
- Advise management on best practices and deliver training across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Risk Assessment & Management
- Carry out regular Legionella risk assessments across all water systems.
- Identify high-risk areas and implement effective control measures.
- Analyse water samples to monitor bacterial levels and detect potential issues.
Compliance Oversight
- Ensure adherence to ACOP L8 and other relevant UK regulations.
- Develop and maintain water hygiene policies and procedures.
- Audit systems and practices to identify and resolve non-compliance.
- Manage water treatment programmes including chemical dosing and disinfection.
- Coordinate maintenance activities such as cleaning, flushing, and remedial works.
Engineering Duties
- Temperature Monitoring: Regular checks of hot and cold outlets.
- Water Sampling: Collect and submit samples for laboratory analysis.
- Cleaning & Disinfection: Maintain tanks, pipework, and showerheads.
- TMV Servicing: Inspect, test, and service thermostatic mixing valves.
- Visual Inspections: Identify leaks, corrosion, and system damage.
- Closed System Analysis: Assess heating and cooling loops for water quality.
- Reporting: Maintain detailed records of all hygiene activities.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of water hygiene regulations, particularly Legionella control.
- Background in water treatment and hygiene engineering.
- Experience across varied site types (commercial, retail, industrial).
- Ability to interpret water analysis results and implement corrective actions.
- Technical proficiency with water hygiene equipment.
- Excellent communication skills for client interaction and training delivery.
- Strong attention to detail and record-keeping.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Legionella awareness/control).
- Physical ability to work across diverse building environments.
