Our client is a specialist Plumbing, Heating & Water Management Company that is looking to recruit a Water Management Operations Manager to cover their operations in Scotland.

As the Operations Manager for the company you will need to have excellent communication skills as you will play a critical role in communicating technical issues to a range of colleagues, water agencies and outside contractors. Previous experience of using planning software is a huge advantage as is an ability to influence others by using data and facts. A flair for analysing information and presenting it to others is a core skill as well as an ability to manage multiple project deliverables and keep large-scale projects on track. You will be customer-focused and have excellent leadership skills.

Ideally, you should be able to think analytically, possess attention to detail, be a confident and persuasive communicator with excellent written English. You are expected to be a strong team player and be able to build beneficial working relationships across all levels of the organisation. The role requires extensive use of IT systems, including, but not limited to Microsoft Excel, Word and Power BI. Finally, you should be able to successfully manage a diverse and busy workload autonomously.

 

Key responsibilities

Responsibilities will vary according to organisation but may include a combination of:

  • Leading and co-ordinating input into a range of water resource management projects.
  • Managing and coaching junior staff in all aspects of water resources planning.
  • Ensuring that timelines and project deliverables are on target.
  • Keeping key stakeholders informed of project objectives and outcomes.
  • Working effectively with water companies, other planners, design engineers and regulators.
  • Effectively using software planning systems
  • Managing the control and progress of relevant project procurements, tracking expenditure and producing financial schedules.
  • Preparing tender programmes.
  • Working with colleagues to predict future water usage, demands and resources.
  • Adopting innovative and creative strategies to manage current and future water resource projects.
  • Monitoring and enforcing the latest health and safety procedures, regulations and legislation.
  • Planning: advise and contribute to the review and improvement of the Legionella Management Plan; oversee the continual development and utilisation of the electronic legionella logbook; develop and oversee the delivery of bespoke legionella awareness training regime; ensure planning for legionella review assessments. 
  • Be appointed as the nominated competent person to manage all aspects of legionella management within the company
  • Undertake legionella management reviews (to include physical surveys and inspections); provision of legionella management advice to members of staff, carry out investigations in response to legionella related incidents; extract and consolidate compliance remedial work requirements into priority schedules from Legionella Risk Assessments; consult and comment on the feasibility of designs and specifications for projects co-ordinating the appropriate expert response
  • Act as the overall lead to ensure all water safety samples are monitored recorded and results acted on; monitor and report on the status of the significant findings of legionella risk assessments; assess, review and update the written control schemes; report on completion of routine periodic tasks and inspections; monitor and audit performance PPM reports, contract KPIs etc to assure compliance and expedite any non-compliant exceptions. 

Skills, knowledge and experience

Essential criteria

  1. City & Guilds Certificate in Legionella (including Risk Assessment of Water Systems), BOHS (P900, P901, P903 and P904) or equivalent
  2. Previous experience in the management of water hygiene and application of L8, HSG274 and HTM04-01
  3. A minimum of 5 years’ experience of completing legionella risk assessments/legionella management audits
  4. Previous experience sampling and monitoring of hot and cold-water systems to BS8554.
  5. Experience of electronic water management logbooks and record systems
  6. Experience of producing high quality reports and correspondence and giving clear oral reports/presentations.
  7. Good organisational skills and ability to work to competing deadlines
