Our client is a prestigious educational institution with one of the largest and most complex estates portfolios in the UK. Their estate spans more than 370 academic, research, and teaching buildings, as well as over 1,000 keyworker residences and investment properties. With a maintenance and minor works budget exceeding £30 million annually, the Estates Division plays a vital role in maintaining safe and high-functioning environments that support cutting-edge research, learning, and residential living.

 

They are now seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Water Safety Advisor to join their dedicated Water Safety Team. This role is integral to maintaining compliance with water hygiene legislation and managing Legionella risk across a diverse and complex estate. You’ll work closely with internal compliance teams and external maintenance providers to ensure that the water safety regime is robust, continually improved, and aligned with best practices. The position requires a strong background in water hygiene, sampling analysis, and asset data management, along with the ability to operate independently and as part of a collaborative team.

 

Requirements:

  • Experience working with domestic water systems in an engineering or facilities management capacity.
  • Proven understanding of microbiological sampling and laboratory report interpretation.
  • Proficiency in using electronic logbooks (e.g., ZetaSafe) and remote monitoring systems.
  • Ability to develop schematic drawings and produce technical documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of Facilities Management systems and compliance processes.
  • Familiarity with CAFM systems and building maintenance operations.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage and prioritise a varied workload.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Competent in data analysis and report writing.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Manage high-risk and critical building sampling programmes, including result review, trend analysis, and development of corrective and preventative actions.
  • Escalate buildings to higher risk categories where necessary.
  • Oversee supporting systems such as asset data platforms, electronic logbooks, and remote monitoring tools.
  • Ensure timely implementation of remedial actions from monitoring alerts and compliance systems.
  • Contribute to water risk reduction projects across the estate.
  • Conduct technical audits including Legionella risk assessments and logbook reviews.
  • Support the Water Safety Manager in driving continuous improvement across the water hygiene strategy.

 

Experience Required:

  • Qualified to A-Level standard or equivalent.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
  • City & Guilds qualifications in Legionella Risk Assessing and related topics.
  • Membership of the Water Management Society or a similar professional body.
